What’s so good about being passed over? Most of the time in our regular lives, this is not a good thing. It usually means we didn’t get something that we were in line for, even entitled to. No one is happy about such a slight.
This term means quite the opposite as we approach Passover. We are reminded how the Israelites had to trust their Lord and spread the blood of the sacrificial lamb on their doorposts for Death to pass over their houses. No blood, no deliverance.
It’s interesting that the blood had to be applied on the doorposts. Think about a doorway’s purpose. We can assume that the danger was going to enter through the door. The blood on the doorposts functioned to repel whoever or whatever was spreading death.
Today our minds are the battleground. The Evil One is still seeking our death. How vigilant are we about what we allow to enter into our thoughts? Sometimes we allow discouragement about who we are, or even disbelief about who HaShem says He is. Sometimes we dwell more on what is bad in this world, than what is Good about Elohim. If we allow haSatan to get inside our minds and capture our thoughts, we have given him power over our lives. To redeem our minds also takes a blood sacrifice. No blood, no deliverance.
Our Messiah Yeshua provides His own blood. Just as the Israelites had to believe in the power of the blood of that sacrificial lamb, we have to believe in the power of Yeshua’s sacrifice for mankind. Through the power of His death and resurrection, his blood covers the doorframes of our minds, our very beings.
Yeshua tells us to focus our thoughts on “what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy.” Philippians 4:8 (CJB) There is nothing so worthy of praise as HaShem and His Messiah. His praise truly fills our temples, flooding our minds with His Shalom.
Passover serves as a reminder of not just how Elohim delivered His people long ago, but how He wants to deliver us afresh. We have a choice whether to believe God and apply the blood of our Messiah on the doorframes of our minds. HaShem’s Plan continues to be for us to have Life Everlasting.
As we return to the term “passed over,” we can be glad we are not getting what we deserve. HaSatan knows that as Fallen Man we were entitled to have permanent separation from our Creator. Through the blood of our Messiah, we can rejoice in having escaped that death that was rightfully ours. HaShem has given us the power to decide for His deliverance. Let’s choose Life.
Phil. 4:7 (CJB) Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.
